When it comes to choosing a senior living facility for yourself or for a loved one, the choices can be endless and the process can be emotional and overwhelming. Such a life change like this calls for guidance from someone who has the knowledge of the different types of senior housing facilities, as well as the specific options in our area. For the past four years Lindsey Poeth CSA®, Certified Senior Advisor and owner of Oasis Senior Living Advisors Mainline, has been helping seniors and their families in our community make the right choice.

Oasis Senior Advisors Mainline, located in Malvern and part of a national organization, offers a personal, compassionate touch to meet a family’s unique needs in choosing the perfect place for their loved one. Whether it is for an independent living situation or full-time care, Lindsey can help take the burden of finding a senior housing option off your family’s shoulders. Taking into account your lifestyle, finances and other factors, she will work with you to find the right fit. “Each family is unique in their needs, so each requires a specialized plan of action,” said Lindsey.

Originally from New York, Lindsey grew up outside of Rochester. As a young girl she played a lot of sports including field hockey and was heavily involved in Girl Scouts. Giving back to others was always important to her and whether it was through the Girl Scouts or with her mother, she enjoyed volunteering in her community. After high school she went on to the University of Rochester where she earned a Bachelors of Arts degree in Economics. Her professional interests led her more towards marketing, and for 15 years she worked in pharmaceutical research. In her role as a market researcher, she especially liked speaking with members of focus groups to make sure their voices were heard.

Lindsey also moved around a bit after college and eventually landed in Chester County. “I’ve lived in a few places like Arizona and New Jersey and I found I just love the landscape out here in Pennsylvania,” said Lindsey. “It’s a great community full of wonderful people, too.“ As mom to two teenage children, Lindsey has enjoyed being active in their schools, whether it was coaching field hockey or volunteering with her daughter’s Girl Scout troop.

When the chance came up in 2018 to purchase Oasis Senior Advisors Mainline and to serve the people in her community and the surrounding areas, Lindsey said she jumped at the opportunity. “This opportunity to start my own company fell into my lap,” explained Lindsey. “I knew it would be a way to make a positive impact in my community. It’s been so rewarding to work directly with seniors and their families and to be their guide in what often is a time of crisis.” Lindsey said she was able to draw on many of her past experiences in market research, when she had listened to and gathered information from healthcare professionals, caregivers and patients.

Lindsey’s compassionate and personalized approach puts families at ease. She assists in each step of the way, from the initial conversation, discussing potential communities that fit their needs, organizing tours and ultimately helping to coordinate the move. “Transferring to a senior community, especially to Assisted Living or Memory Care can be very anxiety producing,” she said. “But it’s also a new chapter and a way for that senior to experience life on their terms in a safe and welcoming environment.”

Oftentimes Lindsey is working with the adult children of seniors when their parents are unable to coordinate their own care. And although she urges families to plan for the future, many times she’s called in to help after a traumatic event such as hospitalization after a fall.

Lindsey also understands how important it is to work with someone who knows how the communities are actively adjusting their safety protocols and resident engagement based on the most up-to-date CDC information and state regulations.

While it has been a challenge for senior communities these past two years during the COVID19 pandemic, families searching to move their loved one into a community will be pleased to know that safety precautions are being taken very seriously. Lindsey said these communities have worked hard to make sure their residents are being cared for safely while also ensuring they continue to enjoy their retirement years. “Assisted Living and Personal Care communities in Pennsylvania have revolutionized the way they care for their residents during the COVID-19 pandemic,” explained Lindsey. “They have been able to ensure the safety of their residents and staff, while still allowing residents to have a high quality of life and the ability to engage with their family and friends.”

One positive change that came out of the pandemic is that facilities now have more virtual tour options for seniors who may not be able to come in due to distance or health reasons. “Before the pandemic, there weren’t many alternative options to in-person tours,” said Lindsey. “Now seniors and their families have the ability to “visit” more facilities that they otherwise may not have considered. And the facilities themselves have improved the quality of their virtual tours, so that seniors and family can get a true sense of what a facility is like and what amenities they offer.”

With so many choices of senior living communities in our area as well as the numerous types of housing options, you may not know where to begin. Oasis Senior Advisors Mainline is a free service providing experienced, professional help to find you or your loved one the “right” senior living community.  Lindsey welcomes your senior living options inquiries by phone at 484-453-5544 or by email to LPoeth@YourOasisAdvisor.com.
