Katie is the proud daughter of immigrants from the Dominican Republic, and her Latin culture and heritage have always been an important part of her identity and family life. She was raised in New Jersey, just outside New York City. She attended Washington School in Union City before going to County Prep High School.
She later earned an undergraduate degree in economics from Temple University, where she was a member of the Army ROTC, and she holds an
MBA from Villanova University. After graduating from Temple University, Katie moved to Arizona to serve in the Army. She went on to spend 10 years as an Army intelligence officer in the National Guard, during which time she was deployed to Iraq and to Hurricane Katrina.
Katie eventually transitioned into the consumer health industry and has spent the past 14 years with Johnson & Johnson and its consumer spinoff, Kenvue. During that time, she has led marketing and business efforts for several major brands, including Zarbee’s, Neutrogena, Tylenol, Motrin, Sudafed, Rogaine and Bengay. Katie currently runs the Zarbee’s business for Kenvue and also serves on the board of the Council for Responsible
Nutrition, the leading trade association for vitamins, minerals and dietary supplements.
Meanwhile, Greg grew up right here in Broomall with his parents and brother. Family ties run deep in the area, as his parents have lived in Broomall their entire lives. His dad, Joe, was a lifelong Broomall firefighter. Greg attended St. Pius X for grade school, following in his father’s footsteps, and later graduated from Cardinal O’Hara High School, where he played lacrosse, a sport he continued in college at Widener while earning his degree in Business.
Before college, Greg had no plans to join the military, but during his junior year, 9/11 happened, inspiring him to serve his country. He enlisted in the Army, where he served for 14 years. Greg is also a retired Pennsylvania State Trooper, where he was a Collision Analyst and Reconstruction Specialist (CARS), and now works full-time with Katie as co-owner and operator of Main Line Armory in Malvern.
Katie and Greg’s experiences in the military and law enforcement helped shape their perspectives on personal safety and the importance of education and preparedness. Main Line Armory is a 30,000-square-foot indoor shooting range and training facility designed to be welcoming, modern and focused on safety and education. “We wanted to build a space that feels accessible to everyone, from experienced shooters to individuals who may be
stepping into a range for the first time,” Greg explained. He leads much of the training and firearms instruction, while Katie brings her business and marketing background to the operation. “I love teaching people how to protect themselves better and build confidence,” said Greg. “It’s really about building confidence and responsibility within the community,” added Katie. Through classes, events and outreach, the Butlers aim to make firearm education approachable and to promote safe, responsible ownership.
Greg and Katie are a couple who have built their lives around service, leadership and community, so it’s no surprise that they met while serving their country. After Hurricane Katrina struck the U.S. Gulf Coast in August 2005, Katie and Greg were deployed along with thousands of U.S. servicemen and women from multiple branches of the military, took part in one of the largest domestic disaster relief operations in US history. “We bonded over our Philly connection,” Katie recalled.
The couple returned home from Louisiana to marry and start their lives together in the Delaware County area, eventually settling in Broomall. “Being someone who lived in different cities that were mostly transplants, I was drawn to Greg’s hometown,” said Katie. “It’s nice to see how connected everyone is. It really just felt like home.” “It really is a sweet spot when it comes to Broomall’s location,” Greg added. “It’s close to the city with lots
of culture, and also the Lancaster area. Plus, it has so many good schools to choose from.”
It wasn’t long before they had settled into their new life that they learned that service to their country came with real sacrifices at home. Their son Daniel was born in 2007, and he was just a year and a half when both Katie and Greg were deployed to Iraq, which meant spending time away from their young son. “During those deployments, our families stepped in to help in a profound way,” said Katie. “Greg’s parents played a key role,
caring for their grandson and providing stability while we were serving overseas. Daniel also spent weekends with my parents.” Their willingness to step in allowed Greg and Katie to focus on their missions, knowing their child was surrounded by love and support back home.
Looking back, Greg and Katie often reflect on how grateful they are for that help. “Our parents’ commitment not only strengthened us during a challenging time, but also reinforced the close-knit values that continue to guide us today,” Katie added.
Daniel is now 18. After graduating from LaSalle High School last May, he began his college career at the University of Oklahoma, where he serves in the Army ROTC. He is on the ROTC Ranger Challenge Team, a competition team selected from amongst the best cadets in a program to compete against other colleges throughout the United States. Daniel was one of only three cadets who made this team. “Daniel has always been a strong leader,” Katie and Greg said proudly. After he graduates, Daniel will serve in the US Army and later has plans to work alongside his parents in the
family business.
Daniel’s younger sister Gabriella (Gabi) was born in 2011. A hardworking, intelligent freshman at the Academy of Notre Dame de Namur, Gabi celebrated a milestone birthday last month with a quinceañera. This vibrant and deeply meaningful celebration marks a young woman’s 15th birthday. It’s a symbolic transition from childhood to adulthood.
For Katie, having a quinceañera for her daughter was something she had dreamed about ever since Gabi was born. “For many Latino families, particularly those living far from their home countries, the quinceañera is a way to reconnect with their heritage and pass along cherished traditions to the next generation,” Katie explained.
Gabi’s quinceañera included a series of rituals, each rich with symbolic meaning. The celebration began with a Catholic Mass at St. Pius X in Broomall, during which Gabi received a special blessing and gifts, including a rosary, reaffirming her faith. She also placed flowers at the feet of a statue of the Virgin Mary, a gesture that reflected her dedication to living as a faithful Catholic woman. What added to the significance of the mass was that it was said by Monsignor McHenry, who baptized Greg and his brother and officiated at the weddings of Katie and Greg, as well as Greg’s parents. Daniel also played a significant role as Gabi’s escort, also known as a chambelán.
The celebration continued with a lively reception at the Springfield Country Club with the theme of Gabi’s choosing, Beauty and the Beast. “Gabi scoured the internet and TikTok for ideas,” said Katie. “She was very involved in the planning.” The evening was full of symbolic moments, including a father-daughter waltz, in which Gabi danced with her dad. Greg also performed the tradition of replacing Gabi’s flat shoes with heels, representing her transition from little girl to young woman.
Gabi was also joined by her “court of honor,” made up of 14 young women (damas) and their chambelanes, many of whom were Daniel’s close friends. Together, they performed an elaborate, choreographed “surprise” dance. “Gabi was smiling ear to ear the whole day,” said Greg. “She enjoyed every moment.”
Katie and Greg said that the celebration doubled as a family reunion, drawing relatives from near and far to witness and take part in this important milestone, helping to keep cultural traditions alive, even across great distances. It was a reminder that family and community will always be at the heart of everything they do. “It was special to see people from all aspects of Gabi’s life come together. From her family and friends to even our clients from Main Line Armory,” Greg recalled. “It really was a communal celebration,” said Katie.
Thank you to the Butler Family for sharing their story, one that reflects the values that define their lives: service, tradition and community. From their years in the military and law enforcement to building a family business and raising two driven children, Greg and Katie have created a life rooted in purpose and connection. Gabi’s quinceañera was not only a beautiful celebration of her coming of age, but also a reflection of the family’s unique blend of cultures, experiences and deep appreciation for the people who have supported them along the way.
