The January Toscana Student of the Month is Jenna Coary, a senior at Marple Newtown High School (MNHS). Jenna received a Certificate of Achievement and a Gift Certificate from Toscana Modern Italian Steakhouse, our Sponsor of this program.
Jenna loves helping others, especially as a member of the Best Buddies program. This club is all about inclusion, and club members work with students in the school’s Life Skills program as they regularly participate in social and community outreach activities, work on art projects and even have lunch together in the cafeteria.
Jenna loves playing basketball and volleyball. She’s one of four Captains of the MNHS Varsity Volleyball team, and she even won Player of the Game against Radnor, one of their toughest rivals. Since she was 5 years old, she has played softball for the Newtown Square Petticoat League. She has loved having her dad as her coach each year.
As a member of the National Honor Society and also the Science and English National Honor Societies, Jenna loves taking part in their many outreach activities. Her favorite was when they filled shoeboxes full of toys, to send to children in other countries who otherwise wouldn’t get any gifts at holiday time.
As a young child, Jenna got very interested in the field of ophthalmology when she started wearing glasses and found the whole process fascinating. That experience has her now considering nursing programs at several colleges, after which she might continue her education in med school, in preparation for a possible career as an eye doctor.
